The New F@%#$*R!

.pardon the cursing. in reality I rarely, if ever, curse.

“The New Yorker magazine has received some backlash for this week's cover, showing Barack Obama dressed as a Muslim in the presidential Oval Office. In the cartoon Obama is fist-bumping his Afro-wearing wife Michelle, who is outfitted with camouflage and an AK-47 slung over her back. The controversial cover, obviously meant to satirize false stereotypes of the presidential hopeful, has been accused of being too over-the-top." --- Los Angelas Times

OK, so my passion in life is to promote more quality images of African Americans in the media.

So, when I heard of this New Yorker issue, I was upset. IMAGE IS EVERYHTHING! And because Barack Obama is up for presidency, it is important to represent him in the most diplomatic way. Never mind the critics and their “backlash” against “liberal sensitivity.” Caricatures are representative of stereotypes and whether or not anyone is laughing, everyone is looking, and ones perception can have devastating effects when evaluating Obama’s platform.

Now this is important because African Americans have had a history of being portrayed as caricatures. These representations encouraged negative attitudes and beliefs about African Americans. Because the media is an effective vehicle in communicating messages, the effects of stereotypes, images, caricatures, are important because they can promote negative beliefs and ideas.

So, give Barack a BA-reak!

What’s the reality. The New Yorker is not funny.
