White Valedictorian: Morehouse College

"They approached me and said, 'Yeah, I have a problem with you being valedictorian. I know you've earned it and even though I know you on a personal level - I like you a lot - but it disturbs me that out of roughly 3,000 black men - there's not one that's done as well as or better than you academically,' " says Packwood.

What's the reality?....interesting...

As a black male, I don't see anything wrong with this situation. Although I somewhat am surprised that out of all those black folks, not one is better than ol' dude. Having never been to an HBCU myself, I was under the impression that the standards and demands made of students were higher than at a non-HBCU. Following such a train of thought, I assumed that HBCU graduates had an advantage over other minority graduates in that superior education sense. But I digress, I still feel like HBCU students should use this as motivation to do better next year. Chalk it up as a loss, work harder and come back stronger, just like what Vinson Muhammed said in the article. It should serve as a wake-up call to the rest of the campus to step their academic game up.
