Looking Forward

I am looking forward to seeing The Secret Lives of Bees:

Set in South Carolina in 1964, the film is the moving tale of Lily Owens a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna. Written by Fox Searchlight.

Two Qualms:

1. With the plethora of dedicated and talented African American actresses, producers are continually choosing music performers for large roles within films. I think mainstream audience appeal has triumphed the talent of many African American actors within the film industry.  But, from the preview, it does look as so this cast has done a great job.

2. I'm mad that on the commercial trailer, they premise the movie with "Never has their been a cast that has captured your heart since Waiting to Exhale."  Ummm did "they" forget such films as Soul Food or even Set it Off, just to name a few of the few that are even out there. I think the statement devalues the small amount of great films with an all African American cast. For too long, "these casts" have existed, but have not gotten the recognition that they all should have been afforded.  Capture that producer "Man"!  The statement was unnecessary.

What's the reality?...With the small amount of films featuring African Americans, I am REALLY excited to see this movie!

i wish i was going to be in the states to see this movie!!

i love all the actresses.... yes, i do think that sometimes other black actors get looked over in favor of those who rose to fame via their music, but you have to respect these 3... they hold their own!

let me know how it is!
